The Way of the Stick
Jodo is a classical martial art (KoBudo). The way that we approach and study of this art is different than our approach to modern martial arts, though in the end our experience should lead us to the understanding that all true budo is based on the same principals and it is only the outer forms that change. We approach jodo with a sense of preservation. It is our duty to try to keep the techniques and kata of the system exactly as they have been given to us by our teacher so that they can in turn be passed on to future generations without distortion.
Jaff Raji has been a fulltime Budo student and instructor for 40 years. He teaches seminars year round in more than 30 countries. He is the founder and headmaster of Ecole de BUDO RAJI International. He studied Aikido with Tamura Nobuyoshi Shihan and traveled to many seminars as his assistant. Jaff studies Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido with Malcom Tiki Shewan Sensei. He is a high Instructor in the European Iaido Federation, holds the rank of “Kuden Shugo,” highest level certificate in this federation. He got the certificate of “Menkyo” from Master SEKIGUCHI Komei 21st Soke of the traditional Koryu (old school) of Iai-Jutsu “Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu” in Japan in 2009. He was awarded by his master of Jodo, Pascal KRIEGER Sensei, with the traditional certificate of “Go-Mokuroku” in Jodo in 2014. Jaff is also a High-Instructor in the European Jodo Federation. Previously he was National Technical manager for the French Federation of Aikido and Budo (F.F.A.B) until 1997. In 2012, Jaff created a workout named RAJI UKEMI Fitness.

The Shinto Muso Ryu was founded nearly 400-years ago, in about 1605, by Muso Gonnosuke Katsukichi. At School of Budo, our lineage in jodo is as follows:
Shimizu Takaji Sensei – 25th Headmaster Shinto Muso Ryu
Pascal Krieger Sensei – Menkyo Kaiden (master teacher) and present head of the European Jodo Federation
Jaff Raji Sensei – Okuiri-Sho (official teacher) and founder of Ecole de Budo RAJI - International.
* Note – Since 1994 both Krieger Sensei and Raji Sensei have been under the teaching and guidance of Nishioka Sensei, one of Shimizu Sensei’s first students and the present technical advisor to the International Jodo Federation.
